MySpace + Art = MyArtSpace

Logo : MyartSpace

In the spririt of Web 2.0, the art community now has its MySpace space: MyArtSpace. The stated goal is to create links between artists and allow them to display and sell their works. A rough estimate gives me 1600 galleries active. Not bad!

http://www.myartspace.com is a great site. I have a Premium account on there and was contacted by a collector the first week. It is not as large as say http://www.deviantart.com, but the quality of art is much better and I would say that the quality of traffic to the site is better (not millions of 13 year olds flooding to the site each day). I also enjoy the interviews that their editor does. The only downside is that they have not created forums yet so aside from comments and messages the sense of community is sometimes lacking. I think forums are coming though and I read that they are working on group capability kinda like myspace. Considering that they have had jurors from the Tate Modern, Sotheby’s, The National Portrait Gallery, SAIC, New American Paintings and RISD I would say that they even give Saatchi’s site a run for its money. I’m interested in finding out more about the myartspace art scholarships as well, http://www.myartscholarship.com. Do you know anything?
